| This man's daily work is offering donkey rides to tourists in Cairo at the Pyramids. His donkey is his livelihood which allows him to support his family of 6 children. His total income is derived from this donkey and he is unfortunately unable to afford another donkey despite the animal is old, ailing and overdue for retirement. This is the story all over Egypt and is the case with most equine-owners there. On this scorching day Janet saw the man and the donkey at work and noticed the donkey's swollen, infected eyes. When the man was approached and an interpreter found, Janet offered assistance that the man was unable to afford. Veterinary treatment did not come easily as the vet was not on duty that day. After arranging to meet at the vet two days later, the man waited from sun-up for Janet to arrive so that he would not miss out on the opportunity for treatment. The donkey's eyes were treated and follow-up treatment was paid for a further three visits. A protective fly veil was also supplied. The man was incredibly happy and extremely grateful. His smile said it all! |
