This month we have got some great news to share. Rebuilding of Isolation unit is one of them. Our sanctuary in the April 25th earthquake didn't suffer much damage except destruction of the donkey's isolation room. There have been few cracks on the sanctuary wall. During aftershocks our grazing equines fell on the ground. However, none of them got hurt during the disaster. But the problem was still there because we didn't want to mix the sick one with the healthy ones. With a kind assistance from Animal Aid Abroad we have now started the reconstruction of the isolation unit and this time we plan to build more durable and disaster resistant building. For now we have halted the work due to monsoon. We aim to complete the construction till the end of September.
We have also welcomed a new female mule in our sanctuary rescued from Bol Bom brick factory, Lalitpur. Since her owner Pappu Kasgar didn't want the mule to work anymore because of her walking problem occurred from her fetlock joint. We respected his decision and welcomed 'Pappu' the mule (named after her owner) in the sanctuary. Despite of the joint problem, Pappu is a very healthy and sound mule who is extremely gentle and friendly with other mules and visitors.
While we celebrate the reconstruction of isolation chamber and arrival of our new mule, we have also been concerned for Maneka who has grown extremely old. Due to her old age she is having problem to eat properly. Dr.Atish Yadav continuously conducted her tooth rasp which has somehow eased her feeding. We are soon conducting quality of life assessment on Maneka which we will be including in our next month update. Remaining members of the sanctuary are fine and they are enjoying rain in this monsoon. However, this has been a challenging month for us and the animals too as we still haven't recovered from our earthquake trauma. But as the things are getting back to normal, we are expecting some better changes in our sanctuary and our country as well.
Meanwhile, thank you Animal Aid Abroad on behalf of our donkeys!
