The Fight to Free Saigon Continues......

STOP PRESS! The battle to free Australia's last circus elephant from a life of cruel confinement continues...
On Sunday 14th March, Animals Australia learned via Perry Bros website that they have decided not to retire Saigon on their 80 hectare property, but instead intend to truck her back to Melbourne to be with the circus when they set up for their season at Bayswater North.
This decision has both shocked and horrified Animals Australia who completely believed that Perry Bros had committed to retiring Saigon in response to community concerns for her welfare and to quieten calls for Saigon to be re-homed with other elephants at a sanctuary. That this 55 year old elephant will now have to face the stresses of further transportation and relocation, only to be confined in a small barren enclosure on public display, is a tragedy and proves beyond any doubt that the welfare of this elephant is not a priority for Perry Bros Circus.
Animals Australia therefore has no choice but to act on Saigon’s behalf and mount a sustained campaign which will include public advertising and demonstrations at the circus. Animals Australia and its supporters will also be lobbying the Brumby government to ban the keeping of single elephants in circuses in Victoria in line with cruelty legislation in SA, NSW and QLD.
We will post campaign updates to this page as they happen.
On behalf of Saigon, and all exotic animals held captive at circuses, thank you for your support.
