Scotty & Lila, two ex-brick kiln donkeys pass away in NepalWritten by AAA Created Sunday, 15 August 2010 Sadly, Scotty and Lila passed away recently. The trouble is that some donkeys have had such a rough life that even though they initially seem to improve their immune system remains weak. Some donkeys' gums are so badly damaged they can't eat rough food anymore. Other donkeys have suffered from pneumonia in the past and their lungs have deteriorated, leading to respiratory problems. The slightest infection can lead to a deterioration of their health. In this case both donkeys were part of the group of 8 that were rescued from Kavre. Despite the great efforts of our vets to save the sick donkeys, and the improved facilities (including an isolation unit with soft beds), Scotty and Lila died due to pneumonia. We have buried them in the forest area next to our shelter. Thank you to Jenny Grant, Trina Glover, Iris Hill, Julie Flaherty, Claire Douglas, Kim Gorey and Natalie Calleja who made it possible for these two donkeys to spend their final months on this earth in a safe, kind and well cared for environment.
