Age: 6 years
Dominique was born in Medgidia’s shelter during spring. That day was Sunday, “duminica” in Romanian language, from this the name Dominique. During the previous winter a man came to Save the Dogs and other Animals to ask for help because he didn’t have enough money to feed his horse. That horse was a female and Alina, the vet, after few weeks discovered that she was pregnant. She appeared in good and healthy condition but her owner was using her to work. So, after the birth when the man came back to reclaim his horse, we decided to buy the colt Dominique to give him the possibility of a happy and peaceful life as a horse, not a slave. Unfortunately horses in Romania are still used for heavy work on farms and to drag wood. They often don’t receive the necessary care and when they end their work ability owners abandon them in the street.
Dominique, thanks to Save the Dogs and its partners, has the possibility to grow up free at Footprints of Joy (www.footprintsofjoy.eu), a peaceful place, without knowing suffering. Just a bad thing happened to him some years ago. He was running in the corral and he stumbled on a wood and he broke seriously his tendon. After a difficult and a long surgery operation by an external specialized vet, he reacquired the mobility of his leg and hoof.
Dominique is shy and wild, but he has a good relation with the workers that saw him grow up as a son.
Update (November 2016)
Dominique’s recovery post-op went well…you wouln’t even gueesd he had an operation on his knee. He is always very playful and truly enjoyd the summer season.
Update (May 2017)
Dominique, is the Sanctuary’s most joyful horse. After the knee surgery last year he didn’t forget how to enjoy life. He follows Roxana everywhere, licks her hand like a dog and is always ready to be cuddled and brushed. He is an absolute treasure and loves to hang out with his best mate Victor.
