Age: 6 years
Her owner, a young guy from Cernavoda, brought her when she was very young. They stayed one year together and they established a good connection. In that time the owner lost his job and, after some months, he couldn’t carry on his life and give the necessary sustain to Doina. Therefore he had to take a difficult and distressing decision: to live his country, his family and his horse to go abroad to work. He came to Save the Dogs and other Animals shelter to ask us if we could bring Doina and take care of her. He was very upset ant the separation was hard for both of them. Doina stayed in a depressing condition for some weeks. Thanks to our workers, that gave her many attention and warmth, now she is healthy and happy to be in our shelter and she build a good relation with the three horses that are in the same stable with her, Margherita, Lena and Tania.
Anyway in general Doina has a frightened character caused by a bad experience she had when she was young. She was tow a cart on the street and one car passed too closed to her. She took a big scared, had a knee-jerk reaction, and one of the metal planks pierce her chest. A veterinary cure her as well as possible, but she can’t forget what happened and she is still anxious sometimes.
Update (November 2016)
Our grey spotted lady, is the youngest horse at our sanctuary. Best friends with Margherita, she is always at her side to show her support and encouragement. She has a really well shaped personality but needs her personal space that you need to respect.
Update (May 2017)
Our independent teen, will only do things on her terms. First for treats, last for serious matters. She was Margherita’s support when they first met and now they are unseparable.
Margherita, the fighter, is enjoying life at our sanctuary. A well-deserved peace and quiet after the horrors she’s been through before we rescued her. In Doina’s company, her inseparable friend, she even started to trust people more. After months of treatment, whenever she saw Roxana she ran in the opposite direction. This year, Roxana is happy to confess that she could touch her, pet her, and brush her without having to chase her in the paddock.
