AAE's first official and successful animal rescue

On Tuesday evening AAE received a phone call through Magda [ AAE Board committee member] from Mrs el Rifai [ a concerned resident], reporting that a cat had fallen from the 6th floor roof onto the 5th floor of an uninhabited flat. The inhabitants of the building threw food to it from the roof. It had been there for two weeks, and Ms el Rifai was worried it would die, especially as it had been raining hard in the last few days. Ann Norhan Shrief [ AAE Clinic Manager], Hani [ AAE Assistant Vet] and Sofia [ AAE volunteer] went to Ms el Rifai on Wednesday at 2 pm. They went up 6 floors of the building next to the balcony where the cat was trapped. There was a long distance between the 5th and 6th floors. They put some food in the net and lowered it to the 5th floor, where the cat was crouching. It was too scared to approach, but finally, after 2 hours, it jumped into a flat on the same floor. The rescue team knocked at the door and the owners of the flat were very cooperative and let them in. After chasing the cat round the flat, Hani finally caught it in the net. Although the cat bit Hani and tore the net, he did manage to catch it and release it into the street. Our thanks go to Ann, our Clinic Manager who spent quite a few hours with Hani [ both receiving injuries from their ordeal] trying to catch this cat plus Sofia our AAE volunteer who also assisted. See attached pictures.
