Somaliland Update: SAWS Mobile Clinic Update for February
The SAWS donkey mobile clinic, supported solely by Animal Aid Abroad, treated 143 donkeys in the month of February. Working donkeys were treated for equine lung worm which is a major parasite of donkeys living in urban areas. Many donkeys are infected early in life from feeding on garbage because they don't have access to proper feed and nutrition.
Other treatments included- trimming of hooves, treating body wounds especially on backs due to inadequate harness materials and vitamin injections for weak donkeys.
Recently, the Brooke East Africa team visited SAWS donkey clinics and commended them on their work and gave advice on proper handling of donkeys. Dr Ali and his small team play a very important role helping many hundreds of working donkeys who really do it tough in this region of Africa.
